A diamond eternity ring is perceived as the perfect symbol of everlasting and eternal love. The eternity ring is either half way or full diamond studded. Although the full one looks better and it is the only one that can be rightfully called diamond eternity ring, it has few disadvantages: It is more expensive, some types of setting may produce discomfort between the fingers and using bigger stones require fairly high settings. However the level on which a woman will start to feel discomfort is very individual. The “half eternity” ring is set with diamonds on the visible front section (about 2/5 of the circumference) and is plain solid metal at the back. Although much more affordable and more comfortable to wear than the full eternity ring, the half eternity ring is defying the symbolism of eternity and it should not be called so. The half eternity ring tends to turn its plain side up creating the need for constant positioning. Another variation of "non eternal" diamond eternity ring, also called sometime anniversary ring is the 5 stone ring which is usually set with 5 diamonds of same size in a row. This ring shares the budget advantages of the half eternity ring and it is self positioning but it also shares its lack of eternity symbolism. The diamond eternity ring is a gift for an anniversary which constitutes that the parties (the giving and the receiving one) know well each other. Let this knowledge guide you for your choice of type of diamond eternity ring.
Some points of importance:
If you appreciate comfortable ring, look for setting which is as low as possible.
Make sure the setting is not too weak due to all openings, especially when the sides are also studded. Consider that there is openings under the diamonds and when they are close there is very little metal to keep together the whole structure.
Choose platinum or palladium for strong setting. This will dramatically increase the life of your eternity ring and the safety of the diamonds on it.
When choosing a prong set eternity ring, avoid hollowed high bands and look for solid settings where each collet reaches the finger. When this type of setting involves relatively large diamonds (over 0.30ct each), consider 5 diamond ring rather than full eternity. It will save you money and keep the discomfort away.
